FUNERAL OF THE LATE MB. J. PETHERICK.

, * The funeral of the late Mr. Jas. Petheriok took plaoe this afternoon, and the large nnmber who followed hie remains to the Sydney-street Cemetery was an evidence oi the respect in which he had been held by the community. A short service was conduoted by the Rev. J. Patorson at 2 o'olook at the deceased's late residence in Willis-street, after which the funeral procession was formed. The Oddfellows were at the head, and after them came the hearse, whioh was followed by numerous carriages containing the relatives, the Major and City Councillors, the Chairman of the Harbour Board and members of that body, the Town Clerk, the Seoretary of the Harbonr Board, Sir R frtont and Mr. H. D. Bell, M H.R.'a, and other leading citizens. After the carriages there was a very large number of oitizens on foot and two of the Fire Brigade waggons, with a number of the members of the Brigade under Captain Kemsley, brought up the rear. The Mayor (Mr. Luke) and Councillors Willeaton and Anderson, and the Chairman of the Harbour Board (Mr. T. J. Gale) and Captain Bose and Mr. J. Jaok (members of the Board) acted as pallbearers, and the service at the grave waa oondnoted by the Rev. J. Paterson. A large number of wreathß were sent, including one from the City Counoil and another from the Harbonr Board.
