4 JAPAN RENOUNCES THE LIAO-TONG PENINSULA. Ifbibb association.] Shanghai, 6th May. It is understood that Japan is willing to surrender the Liao-tong Peninsula with the exception of Port Arthur, but the Great Powers are demanding the release of the whole peninsula. The British Government advises Japan to accept the latter proposal. The Russian, German, and French squadrons are assembled at Chefoo. The British and Gorman sailors virtually occupy tho treaty ports in Formosa, owing to the attitude of the " Black Flags." (Received May 7. 10 30 a.m.) Paris, 6th May. The Japanese Minister in Paris has informed M. Hanotaux, Minister for Foreign Affairs, that Japan has renounced her claim to tbe permanent possession of Liao-tong Peninsula, inoluding Port Arthur. St. Petersburg, 6th May. A communique' to the Journal de St. Petersburg states that Japan, yielding to the advice of tho Great Powers, has renounced the final possession of Tengtien. Special.— Received May 7, 10.30 a.m. London, Oth May. The reports received from New York thai Japan is preparing for war with Russia are unconfirmed.
