The New Baptist Chvrch.

The new Baptist Church in Vivian-street, whioh was opened on Sunday last, is octagonal in form, about 60ft iv its greatest width, with a cironUr dome-shaped roof, broken into panels with roof trusses, &o. The rostrum is arranged in front of an elliptical cave at the back of the building which contains the baptistry, whioh is constructed of concrete. The foot of the roßtrum is enclosed with open oast-iron balusters and Frenoh-polished oedar handrail. The seats are arranged in a circle from a oentre some little distance behind the preacher, and stand on a sloping floor, affording the greatest comfort m both seeing and hearing. The apex of the oeiling is about 33ft above the floor level. The ohoir stalls are arranged at the entrance end of the bnilding, opposite tbe rostrum, and are enclosed at each end by ornamental wooden soreens. The vestibules and porches are of the most ample description, with all necessary conveniences. At the back of the cliuroh, on either side of the rostrnm, are vostrieß for the use of the minister and, the ohoir. Seating accommodation is provided in the ohuroh for 450 persons. Tho building is constructed of wood throughout, treated arohiteoturally in tbe Gothic style. The walls internally are plastered with tinted rough stuaco. Good light is obtained throngh pretty stainedglass windows, and at night the cliuroh is artificially illuminated throughout with the eleotrio light of about 700 oandle-power, which diffuses a soft and pleasant radiance. The acoustics of the bnilding have proved themselves good. The front of the site is enclosed by a conorete wall and a handsome wrought-iron fence, and all the approaches are asphalted. The contract was let for £1675, and inducted the removal of the old building to the baok of the present ohuroh. The contractor for the now bnilding was Mr. T. Orr, and associated with him as subcontractors were Messrs. Foloy (plasterer), Remington (plnmber), and Burke (painter), whilst the whole of the ironwork was supplied by Messrs Lnke &> Sons. The building was designed and superintended by Mr. William Criohton, architect, of Grey-street.
