SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

« Mitchelltown—Mr. J. Collins presided at this meeting. The head teacher (Miss M'Kenzie) read a report stating that the sohool opened on 28th January with an attendance of 30 pupils, which had now increased to 90, the average attendance being 68. She urged parents to send children more punctually to school, and stated that satisfactory progress was being made with the tuition. She also expressed satisfaction with her staff, and thanked the Committee and others for assistance given since the Bohool had been opened. The report was adopted, as also was the balance-sheet in connection with conoerts which have been held, by means of which about two guineas had been netted after purchasing material for stage, &0., and paying all expenses. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the head teacher and staff for the efficient manner in which they have carried out their duties. The eleotion of a Committee resulted as follows :—Messrs. J. Collins, H. Mitchell, W. J.Foster, J.Goer, R. Tait, W. J. Haines, and Lindsay. The new Committee was urged to tako step 3to enforce the provisions of the Sohool Attendance Act of hist session, and the aotion of the previous Committee in endeavouring to raise the standards of the school waß approved. Mr. Collins was elected Chairman of tho new Committee, and Mr. Foster Secretary. Walloceville—At this meeting a satisfactory report and balance-sheet were submitted and adopted, and credit was given to Miss hlkin for the manner in which the school was conducted. The new Committee was elected as follows :—Messrs. W. Uorrie, H. Alexander, W. Burrell, J. Gorrie, and F. A. Clifford. Mr. Clifford was elected chair, man, and Mr. Gorrie treasurer and seoretary. Upper Hutt—The meeting of householders lapsed, consequently a committee could not be appointed. Kilbirnie—Only nine persons attended the meeting at Kilbirnie, and of these six were members of the retiring Committee, whilst of the romaining three only two were entitled to vote. The ohair was ooonpied by Mr. Camming. Tbe annual report, which was read and adopted, showed the school and its affairs to be in a satisfactory condition. Upon tho Chairman inviting nominations, each one of the retiring members of the Committee declined to allow himself to bo nominated for turther office. It waß understood that the old committeerren took this course with a view of showing their diaguat at the apathy of the householders of the district so far as it related to school matters.
