THE WEATHER.

♦ . The oold of Saturday afternoon— there was sleety snow at Petone during the College football mat oh— became intensified as night drew on, and a good deal of snow fell on the ranges beyond the Hutt. A fieroe bou- westerly gale set in later on, and the night was most tempestuous, heavy rain and hail falling at intervals. Yesterday morning the wind lulled, but it again freshened towards noon, and shortly after 3 o'clock a snow storm sot in. Very soon the higher ranges extending from tho baok of Vogeltown away beyond Ngahauranga, were mintled in white. In sheltered spots in tho city streets small heaps of snow collected, but these, soon melted. During the evening and night heavy showors of rain and hail fell. To-day the snow still lay on the back hills during the early morning, but although there -> ia " a nipping and an eager air " the weather has moderated, and tho glass shows evidences of rising. At Petono yesterday tho ground was covered with snow till nightfall. The thermometer at the Observatory stood last night at 3!) degrees in the shade and 25 degrees on tho grass, whioh readings are 10 degrees below those of Saturday morning.
