The local Knights,of Labour carried a resolution strongly condemnatory of the aotion of the governing body of the rtaitaki High School in dismissing Mr. Barn without assigning any reason, and calling upon the Minister of Education to make the School Teachera' Appeal Bill applicable to all teachers of secondary schools. At the Supreme Court to-day four youths named Conrad Basan, Alex. Allen, Henry Holland, and Donald Jonea were charged with stealing boots from a faotory which they had entered. One pleaded Guilty, and gave evidenoe exonerating the others, but stating that two not arrested were implicated. The case waa not concluded. The Political Workers' Committee calls on the Legislative Council to pass the Factories Bill in the shape in whioh it has boen sent up by the House. Auckland, 31st August. Mr. R. Bubd, S.M., had an interview with a lunatio this afternoon. The man walked into the Magistrate's room, and eaid he wanted protection, as he was " Jack the Ripper." Butler, the bankrupt arrested yesterday, has agreed to sign documents making over certain prospective assets, and the charge against him has been withdrawn.
