REDUCTION OF THE CYPRUS GARRISON. ! UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I (Received August 30, 2.40 p.m.) London, 29th August. There is some excitement in Cyprus, both In oommerojal and politioal circles, in consequence of tho reduction of the garrison to 50 . men. Sinco laßt sales 700 bales of wool havobeen sold at an advance of from 5 to 10 per cent. Tho Counoil of the Colonial Institute suggested to the Prime Minister that tho Queen's Birthday phould be proclaimed a publio holiday throughout tho Empire Lord Rosebery replied that the community generally should take action, and not tho Government. One obvious objection to tho proposal was that it was undesirable to have another holiday so near Whit Monday, which in England is a gonoral holiday.
