TRAGEDY IN VICTORIA.
♦ A SETTLER MURDERS HIS CHILDEEN AND A NEIGHBOUR. I UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. I Melbotjj&ne. 27th August. A terrible tragedy is roported to have occurred about three miles from Springhurst railway station (160 miles north-east of this oity), where a seleotor named George Dobson murdered three of his children, also a neighbour named Peter Dinsdale, and then committed suicide by cutting his throat. Dobson had been in a very despondent mood for some days, owing to monetary troubles, and had been continually stating to his wife that he had only a few days to live. Yesterday Mrs. Dcbson determined to obtain help, and left her home for that purpose, taking two of the youngest children with her. A friend of hers named Vonarx rode over to the residence this morning, when he discovered the bodies, and communicated with the police. A thorough aaaroh by the latter revealed the bodies of the children face downwards, with their throats cut. Dinsdale had apparently been shot behind the ear while reading. Continuing their search the police found a butcher's knife smeared with blood near an underground tank, and on looking into the tank Dobson's body was observed, with the head almost severed from the trunk.
