Mr. M'Loun moved as an araoneiniontto clauso 55— relative to tho production Ol books, deeds, Ac, before the Court— that t!io information obtained from tradesmen's book* should not bo made public. This was agreed to. The Hon. Dr. Pollon, when clause 81 was roaohed— relative to the Hallway Coromiswioners referring disputes with their servants to the Court— moved that all the olauses referring to railway employes be struck out. llu said that the railway 'servants enjoyed good billets, and gave their votes en bloc in the oaHe of Parliamentary eleotions. Thiß being so, no hardship would bo done to them from tho olauses being struck out. .Discipline must bo maintained in tho Government Servioe, and as the people interested wore virtually Government servants, he saw no reason why they should be treated in a diffarent way from other publio servants. Tlie Hon. Mr. Montgomery hoped that the amendment would not ba agreed to. He thought it only just that the Government mil way employe's should be placed in the position of enabling publio officers to assert their rights. Tho Hon. Messrs. Bowen and M'Lean supported the amendment. The Hon. Mr. Oliver remarked that, in bit* opinion, an aorid bnt fntile quarrel would uriflo between tho Houses of the Legislature if the cmendmont wore agreed to. The clauses relating to the railway people lod him to beliovo that it was the intention of the Government at as early a date as possible to resume control of the Government railways. The responsibility, howover, for the olauses rested with the electorates, who would know how to deal with the subject whon the proper time arrived. After farther debate, the amendment was lost by 16 to 10. For (10)— Bowen, Dignan, Holmes, Pollen, M'Lean, Ormond, Shnmski, Stevens, Swannon, L. Walker. The Bill was reported as amended, but was recommitted with a view to reinsert the words "trades unions" und ''trade souieties " in soveral clauses from whioh the terms had been excised on tho previous day. Theso amendments wore agreed to, and the Bill was again reported. The Hon. Mr. Montgomeey gave an assurance to tho Hon. Mr. Jenkinaon that the Government would afford him every facility to propose- oortain amendments in the Bill, if he so desired, whon the motion for the third reading caino on. OTHER BILLS. The Imprest Supply Bill (No. 2) passed all stages. The Gaming Bill was read tho first time. TUB LEGITIMATION BILL. This Bill was further considered in Committee. A division on the question that clause 2 of tho original Bill be struck out resulted in its retention by 13 to 12. This clause is the gist of the measure, as it providos for the legitimation of children born out of wedlook in the event of the parents intermarrying. I he Bill was reported as it was introduced to tho Council, and the third reading was fixed for the 10th August. Tho Council adjourned to tho Bth August.
