THE SMALL -POX SCARE.
« The Government has received further pa£ ticnlars respecting the alleged case of smallpox at Eltham. The patient is tho twelve-year-old daughter of Mr Wallace, a mill engineer. Dr. Harrison, of Eltham, was the first to report the case. He described the symptoms aB those of small-pox, and his opinion was endorsed by Dr. Paget, of Ktratford. The symptoms are described aB those of an nrnptive disease with pustules, but the authorities poiut out that this might bo ohicken-pox. The girl has been vaccinated. The New Plymouth municipal authorities telegraphed suggesting that the running of the trains from Eltham bo stopped, but the Government replied that this was not considered to be necessary pending the reports whioh were being obtained on tho case.
