"STAND OR BE SHOT." INDISCRIMINATE SHOOTING AT COOLGARDIE.
(Our Own Correspondent.) Melboubnb, 12th June. News from Coolgardie, dated sth June, Btates that a shooting affray occurred at Barman's on Friday night, whioh is alleged to be the result of the troubles at Broken Hill two years ago. A man named Ellis, a übemiat, trading as Dr. Ellis, fired six shots through various parts of his tent. He then re-loaded hiß revolver, and stepping outeido called on a passer-by to stand or be shot. A minor known as " Ballarat Tommy" rushed at Ellis, and seized his arm, but the rovolver was discharged, lodging tv bullet in the arm of John Dingale. Tho bullet shattered the bone, aud passed out at the elbow. Tho wound was neglected, and probably the arm will have to be amputated. Ellis worked in the Broken Hill Proprietary mine during the time of tho strike, and subsequently practised under the namo of "Elias, the Good Samaritan." Ho alleges that ho was trying to shoot one Phil Sladden, formerly a Unionist at the Barrier, who took advantage of the absence of tho police to annoy him.
