NEW DANCE IN GERMANY.
The latest news from Berlin is that the Emperor is bent on changing the character of the dances in good society. Ho is tired of quadrilles. They are too antiquated and too monotonous. Of course skirt dancing is out of the question at the Court of the Hohenzolleras, and the puzzle is what to substitute for the dreary quadrilles. The Emperor has had an idea — lancer-gavottes. He kept it a secret for some time, and then he sent to the Opera House. The ballet-master came. There was a consultation, and the Count Hochberg, assisting thereat, gave both the benefit of his own experiences and advice. The result was that the following day " four couples of choregraphic artists " arrived from the Opera House, and danced before the Emperor and the Court. The dance was a complete success, and in a very short time the dreary and antiquated quadrille will disappear from the programmes of Court balls.
