A serious disturbance has taken place at Pueroa between tho Ngatikoi and Ngatitawhake tribes. The former wore removing gravel from a quarry in the Makomalco Block, when the lattor interfered on tho ground that they hod the prior right to the pit. A korero ensued, with an unsatisfactory result, inasmuch as tho well-known ohiof Te Moananui, of tho Ngatitawhako tribe, got his hand to badly injured that ho came to tho 'lhamos for medical advice, and tho injury received to his band was so serious that one finger had to be amputated, while it wav foond that other fingers were badly crushed. Thin so enraged Moananui's followerg that eleven natives, armed with doublu-barrolled fowling-pieco? and plenty of ammunition, took up a p sition in a qaarry, and emphatically declared that they wonkl shoot any of tho opposing tribo who removed gravel After a lengthy parley, Constablo Beattie induocd both parties to sign a truoo ponding a settlement the ownership of tho quarry. Tho Ngatitawhake thon discharged thoir guns, and after danoing a war - danco returned to their pah. Things are quiet so far to-day, bnt further trouble is feared.
