A Startling Affair in India.

Two native policemen, named Khalka Persad nnd Yasin Khan, hearing that the Sub-Inspector of Police was investigating a charge of bribery against them, conceived the extraordinary idea of not only ranrdering all tho police officers on the station, but several other persons who were said to have boen witnesses against them. They made no secret of their intention, and their first attack was on Dr. Strickland, the civil surgeon of the station, at whom Khalka Persad discharged a gun as he was leaving the dispensary. Tho doctor returned the fire with a police gun, and several shots were exchanged without effect. The fellows succeeded, however, <n killing the sub-in-spector and his orde 'ly and in wounding five others before assistance arrived, having taken up a position tinder a tree, whioh afforded a shelter from Dr. Strickland's gun. Just then Mr. Skinner, the Deputy-Com-missioner, came upon the scene, and was tired at from a distance of about 50 paces, but the gun missod firo. Then one of the miscreants rushed towards him brandishing an axo, but before ho could accomplish his purpose Dr. Strickland fired at and killed him on the spot.
