The Premier, who is at Otorohanga to-day, will probably go home to Kumara shortly after his arrival in Wellington. The Minister for Labour, accompanied by Mr. Mackay, of the Labour Bureau, loft for Levin by the 1.20 train this afternoon for the purpose of inspecting the State farm. Mr Reeves intends to go thoroughly over tho farm to-morrow morning with a view to ascertaining its requirements, and will return to town to-morrow evening. There is some probability of the office of Chief Jndge of tho Native Land Court boing abolished after the resignation of Chief Judge Seth Smith takes effect. The Government, ia still negotiating for the purchase of 10,000 aorea of the Elsthorpe (Hawkes Bay) Estate, from the trustees of the late Mr. John Buchanan. The difficulty at present is as regards price. So far nothing baa been settled as to further appointments to the Legislative Council, but it is probable that a few will.be made bofore noxt session. Four of tho big guns aro to be shipped to the Armstrong works by tbe Dorio on her next trip. There will be two each from Lyttelton and Auokland. The Tekoa, will take one gun from Dnnedin. Mr. H. Brittain has boen eleoted unopposed to represent Wellington on the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand, in place of Mr. T. Gordon, who resigned on account of his leaving Wellington. The " month's memory " of Rev. Father Carolan was held this mornng in St Joseph's Churoh.Bnokle-atreet.at 9 o'olock, in the presence of a vory large congregation. Solemn Requiem mass wa3 sung by the Rev. Fathor Hiokson, with tho Rev. Father M'Kenna (Masterton) as deacon, and the Rev. Father Tymon as sub-deacon, and the Rev. Father Goggan as master of ceremonies. The music of the mass in plain chant was feelingly rendered by the choir under the direction of Rev. Father Anbry. His Grace the Archbishop presided at the ceremony, and there was a large attendance of the clergy in the sanotnary. The Karori Martini-Henry Rifle Club will hold a competition to-morrow at 200, 300, and 500 yards. The Newtown Bowling Club has arranged to ODen its green on the 17th inst. (St. Patrick's Day.) As an indication that the members mean business, they to-day forwarded a challenge to contest the Edwin Challenge Badges, at present held by a rink of the Wellington Bowling Club.
