BURGLARY AT MENINDIE. ? (S.A. Register.)
For the past thirty-sovon years the Hon. G. C. Walker, M.P., has resided at " The Briars," Menindie, in fancied security from tho enterprising burglar; but on Saturday he/and his family had their confidence rudely disturbed by discovering that the mansion had been broken into on Friday night, and a quantity of valuable jewellery and a largo sum of money stolon. A representative of the Register callod on Mr. Walker, who showed him over the scene of the burglar's operations, and said :— " Early this morning my housekeeper called me, and asked if I had taken my watoh down, as it was not in its usual place. The window of my_dressingroom was open, and on examination I discovered that a gold watch, worth seventy guineas, had disappeared, also a Waterbury Watoh whioh I keep to cheek the other by. Four of my pins were also gone, *o." Nothing oan Bhow better the estimation in which the unpretentious but reliable Waterbury is held by men of means. GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL. THE First Term will begin on Ist February. Miss Hamilton will, receive parents and guardians at the High School on the 30th and 31st January from 2 to 6 p.m. In addition to tho numerous passes in the local Music and Drawing Examinations, 22 pupils from the School passed tho Matriculation Examination last year, five of whom qualified for a " Partial " D Certificate. One pupil passed the Junior University Scholarship Examination, and one kept her second year's terms and sat for the First Section of the B.A. Degree On aocotint of the largo number of pupils another teacher is to bo addod to the teaching staff. Parents in the country may hoar of suitable homes for their daughters by applying to the Sooretary, from whom also prospectuses may bo obtained. CHAS. P. POWLES, Secretary.
