There was a long debato in the Legislative Assembly on tie action of the Railway Commissioners in employing a private solicitor instead of the official one, especially with regard to the pending action Proudfoot v. the Commissioners, whioh might involve the colony in an expenditure of £1,000,000. Mr. Reid, Leader of the Opposition, expressed regret that the Attorney-General and Minister for Jnstice had accepted briefs on behalf of the plaintiff. The Premier sidd that the Government waa unable to interfere with the Commissioners. If the lattf r acted illofrally, there was a course prescribed by which they could be prooeeded against. \
