•Ammnnition prizes. The City Rifles went through their annual course of volley and independent firing yesterday at the Polhill Gully range. There was a capital muster of 64, every available man being present but one, under Captain Collins. Lient.-Colonel Newall was present, and supervised the shooting, and owing to the expeditious way in which it was carried out every man was off the range before 7 o'clock am. The shooting was fairly good, tho figure of merit being equal to that of last year. The Wellington Navals finished their shooting season for 1893 on Saturday, for the Company's gold medal and Challenge Belt, Class trophies, and ammunition prizes. Six matches have been fired by all classes. Two trophies have been won outright — Mr. H. Price's trophy by P.O. Harris, and tho officers' trophy by Seaman Bodgers— and 1300 rounds of ammunition, presented by Captain Duncan, has also been won by all classes. The conditions allowed seven shots at each range, 300, 500, and GOO yards, for A and B Class, and ten shots at <JOO and 500 yards for C Class.

Bifle Club Matches. ♦ I The members of Upper Hutt Rifle Club ' held competitions for the Empire Tea ComI pany and Mrs. Cottor's trophies on Saturday, S the weather being very unfavourable for I good shooting. Mr. F. Wilkie obtained a i leg-in for the former and Mr. J. Salmon for the latter. The following are the highest ) scores (seven shots at each range) : —

The D Battery's junior class bald its weekly competition on Saturday for IV r. Cbatlield'a prize, Gunner Gibson scoring his first "leg-in." A mutch between teaiim picked by Sergeants Jeffreys and Petlierick was won by the former's team, Jeffreys and Hyland being the highest scorers, with 75 each.
