THE TE ARO GOODS SHED. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir— The site of a goods terminus for any city should be chosen where it will be most convenient to the trade of the place. Here the wharves and adjacent merchants' warehouses decide the position, and no sano person will urge that Te Aro should or could be adopted. Regarding it as a branch station, then, in making up a goods train at the main station, tracks and vans are there laid on as required for the principal country ■ stations, such as Carterton, Slasterton, and Etetahnna, and goods are sorted to these trucks "as received. If Te Aro is made a goods station, then, in working, goods reoeived there must needs be sent on in a mixed truck to Wellington, to be sorted to the trucks as mentioned. This would cause delay by always losing a train, and frequently a day in despatch. Cnitomers would not toiera'uS this loss of time, and a merohant who persisted would soon find his trade drop off, and the station, being useless for the purpose, wonld soon fall into disuse. It mvy be that a few traders 'like myself could oart goods to Te Aro at about threepence per ton less cost, but still the scheme is impractical. What is legitimately required at Te Aro is a siding for timber, firewood, and the like, but this can be found on the present reclamation without robbing the oity of its endowments, or injuring the harbour, and •while I regret my vote on this question has not met with the approval you have usually been able to extend to me as a representative, I am still of opinion it was given in the best interests of Wellington.
