SULLIVAN v. BUBEAR. I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I London, 25th September. A sculling race between Tom Sullivan, of New Zealand, and George Buboar, of Knpland, for J2200 a-sido and the Sportsman's Challenge Cup, will ba rowed over the clmmpiousbip course, from Putney to Mortlake, to-day. Babear was the favourite for the sculling race, but Sullivan led throughout and won eas'ly. The time -was 22min 30seo. [Sullivan was born in the Auokland district on tbe 18th September, 1868, and has lived alongside the water all his life. He rowed his first race in 1882, whon he won a race for ladß under 14 in Auckland. Later on he joined the North Shore Bowing Club, and won a large number of races, including maiden, junior, junior ■ senior, and senior races in whaler and inrigged boats. When he was about 21 he came to Wellington and joined the Torpedo Corps. While here he was a r member,. of ,tbe ( Wellington Bowing ClubJ arid.con'tinueS to win fresh laurels. He also defeated Stephenson and Dutch, but was beaten by Stanbnry, the present champion of the world.]
