A RUSSIAN WARSHIP SINKS. GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. ItJNIXED FBXSS ASSOCIATION.] St. Petersburg, 24th September. It is reported that the Russian warship Ruealka has been lost in a gale in the Gulf of Finland. Twelve officers and 166 seamen, it is laid, wont down wit)) the vessel. [The Kqsalka was one of the Russian coast-defenoe turret-ships — an iron vessel of 2026 |tons displacement, bnilt in 1867. She had an armour belt 4Jin in thioKness (her turret being proteoted with 6in metal) behind which came 17 Jin of wooden backing. Mr. Liobt, the sugar expert, estimates that the beet produotion for the year will show an inoreaso of 3000 tons. The Union Steam Ship Company has been advised that the Walcatipu left Sydney for Wellington at 9 o'oloolc on Saturday evening. She should be looked for on Thursday.
