TO-DAY'S PARLIAMENT. I

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The Premier gave notice of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, to correct errors in tho Electoral Act and give the privilege of voting upon electoral rights to shearers. Mr. Rolleston said the Premier had put him in an entirely wrong position by treating hia amendment to the Railway Bill as a Party question. He trusted the Premier would withdraw from that position. He did not wish to embarrass Ministers, but wished to assist them if possible. He would therefore allow his amendment to go on the voices, and hoped the House would express its views on the Bill. A Bill extending tho term of the Commissioners for 12 months should be passed, remitting the question to the next Parliament. ' The Premier said he had asked the House to deal with the matter on other than Party lines, bnt he could not fail to treat the amendment as hostile. The Premier announced, amidst general applause, His "Excellency's assent to the Electoral Bill. He stated that the Govern^ ment had made provision by whioh the new forms of claim for enrolment - were now 'available at all the Post Offices and from all the Registrars in the colony. A vote would be asked for for additional olericnl assistance for Registrars, and it was proposed to utilise the services of the police and other Government officers in collecting from house to honse the claims for enrolment and sending them to the Registrars. (Cries of dissent ) Owing to the short time there would be between now and the elections, some extraordinary stepa must be token. A number of members spoke in opposition to the employment of the police. [Left sitting."]
