There sailed from New York on May 30, upon the Pacific mail eteamBhip City of Para, a little force of ten men who are confident that 'within the breast of one of their number is hidden the key which opon the lock of mystery that the dead years and dead men of the past could not solve. A year and a-half ago there sailed from San Francisco bound for Peru the Stormy Petrel. She never reached her destination. Seven hundred mileß from the Peruvian coast the vessel was wrecked, aud Captain Franz Gissler and his crew took to the life-boats, finally landing on a little island of high granite rocks. Captain Giesler, while exploring the laud, had an eye out for discovery. He found, with the sense born of Cr.liforDian explorations, that there were evidences of gold in tho *ocks that he was passing over. He hurriedly gathered a quantity of rocks showing the discovery, and after his crew had gained strength, Oaptain Giaeler decided to start for Peru. While attempting to launch j* boat from the mysterious island pll the crow, with the exception of Captain Gissler, were drowned, and the captain was forced to try, in his desperation, to reach the coast of Peru alone.
