Mr. Eurl, counsel tor tho accused, stated tha» full restitution and nil expen-es had been guaranteed. He said the prisoner had no motive for the act, bnt was known to be eccentric He had left a comfortable homo to live at a hotel, where for the firsi two ho was introduced to strong drink, with i tbo result that ho did not know what, i he was doing He went on a steamer with ■ tho money, but upon reaching Gisborno realised what he had done, and was on tho way to tho Telegraph Office when he was arrested. Mr. S. Ilosketh, for the prosecution, asked leave to withdraw the information. Inspector Hiokson said it was a private prosecution. Tho Bench allowed tho case to be withdrawn.
