At a meeting of seamen, trimmers, and ' firemen, convened to-night by the Trades and Labour Counoil to consider tho pro- ' visions of tho Shipping and Seamen's Bill, considerable discussion took place, but tho : soamen present abstained from speaking. Mr. Henderson, local manager of tho Union ' Steam Ship Company, criticised several ' features of the Bill. It was resolved that the Govern- I nient be asked to appoint a Commission to 1 enquire into tho oondition of tho railways o before resuming control, and that, in the o event of the Government refusing a Com- g mission, they be asked for a return of the I cost of the F.M. ongines and the amount they have returned for the outlay.
