The death is annonnced of Dr. John Kao, f tho Arctic explorer, who in 18i6 had com- ! mand of an expedition to the Arctic Seas, and surveyed 700 miles of new coast-lino; in 1848 was socond in command, under Sir John Kichardson, of the expedition sent in search of Sir John Franklin. Subsequently he conducted arduous expeditions of discovery, during which bo accomplished important work. He and his party received the reward of .£IO,OOO for bringing the first information of the fate of tha Franklin expedition.
