♦ Telegrams were reoeived this morning from Patea, by Mr. J. S. Cross (owner of tho vessel) and Mr. O, W. Benbow (manager of i the South British Insnranoo Company) stat- . mg tbat the b.b. Waitapu was sucoess- : fully launched into the river at 8 o'olook this morning. She is to leave for Wellington this evening or early to-morrow morning, and in all probability will be placed on the Patent < Slip on Friday, in order that a survey may ' be made as to the extent of damago done to hor. The Waitapn is said to be very much strained, and a number of the planks will have to be renewed.
