WAIRABAPA HUNT CLUB'S STEEPLKCHASE MEETING.
Tho above meeting was attended by about 700 people, inoluding a good sprinkling of Wellington visitors. The dromedary's victory in the Open Steople was very popular, and caused qmte a sensation. After having fallen at the log fence, Secombe remounted, and catching the others fnrther on, won the event comfortably. Tho snm of .£1923 passed through the toUlisator. Following are the concluding results: — Hack Hurdle Handicap, of 23 sots ; about one and a half miles.—Nuts, lOst 121b (Mr. F. Pearoe), 1; Twilight, lOst 71b, 2j Eumatiki, lOat, 3. Also started—Desdemona, lOst 61b, and Azalea, 9st 31b. Won easily. Dividend, £& 9s. Hunt Club Steeplechase, of 45 sovb; about three miles.—Canute, 12st (Mr. F. Pearce), 1; MB., list3lb,2; Playboy, lUt 71b, 3. Also started—Deadeniona, lOst 91b, and Two-np, lOst 71b. A very exciting finish look place between the first and second horses, both being looked together all the way up the straight, Canute ultimately winning by a short head. Dividend, 43 Is. ladies Bracelet Handicap, first horse, bracelet value 20 soya; seoond horse, braoelet value 5 soys'; about one and a half miles. —Miss M, Bhodeß' Cyrus It., 13st (Mr. W. E. bidwill), 1; Miss Donald's Mutineer. 12st91b(Mr. B. Boake),2; Mre. Pruigle's Boger, list 21b (Mr. J. Pringle), 3. Also started—General Gordon, 12st 71b, Honest John, Hat, Mako, list, and Syringa, list.
Won by a neck, after a great race. Dividend, Hunters' Flat Handicap, of 20 soys ; about ore mile.— Silent Friend, Ilstslb (A. Buick), 1 : Pierrot, lOst, 2 ; Donovan, list 121b, 3. Also started — Moonlight, lOst 31b; Killtune, lOst ; Corduroy (late Soaboy), lOst. Silent Friend was left at the post, but collired the field at the half-mile post, and sailed in an easy winner. Dividend, £2 4s.
