| UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 20th July. In his evidence at tho court-martial RearAdmiral Markham said he thought Admiral Tryon meant to circle ronnd outside H.M.S. Campcrdown, which would have been a safe evolution. \ iee -Admiral sir M. Culme- Seymour staled that according to the signal-book Admiral Tryou's sign il to tbo fleet allowed of only ono interpretation. Rear-Admiral Markham replied that his alternative interpretation allowed of a safo evolution, while the other was dangerons. Being closely pressed with respect to his reasons for the conclusion that when ho saw that his interpretation was incorrect a collision was inevitable, ho admitted that ho hod never pood such a manoeuvre as he expected. Admiral Tryon hod frequently attempted evolutions whioh ho (Rear- Admiral Markham) only understood when Admiral Tryon pxplained them. The captain »£ the Camperdown deposed that ho was confident tnu,i> t».niufr i n s ii cables would compel a collision until iuj&yAdmiral Markham suggested that Admiral Tryon intonded to circle outside the second division. Personally ho was not convinced that those on tho Victoria intended to do so.
