HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tbo Harbour Board was held this afternoon. There were present —Messrs. J. Jack (Chairman), J. Petheriok, W. Booth, D. Speedy, J. H. Heaton, T. J. Gale, the Mayor, and Captain Kpse. ihe oredit balance was stated to be ■£3,374 9s Gd, the amount on fixed deposit being £28,000. The followingpayments were authorised : — Accounts and wages, .£2,802 1b lid; progress on contracts, £438 Is 8d ; salaries for July, .£431 6 a 6d ; total, «3,^7\ 18? Id. Leave of absence, owing to indisposition, was granted to Mr. F. H. Fraser. The following recommendations of the Wharves and Aocounts Committee were agreed to :— l. That the regnlar meetings of the Board be held in future on the third Thursday in each month, but that in the event of a San Francisco mail closing in Wellington on that day, the Board meeting be held on the following Thursday. 2 That the City Council be asked to lay down asphalt crossings aoroas Customhousequay at Brandon-street, and across Jervoißquay at the Queen's Wharf approach. 3. That tho Board decline the request of the Seatoun Road Board that they should assist in maintaining the Pilot Station Road. 4. That the request of Messrs. Paull and Roberts for leave to enlarge the shed placed on tho foreshoro licensed from the Board at Clyde-quay be agreed to on oondition that proper plans be supplied and the consent of the Governor-in-Counoil obtained as required by the Harbours Acts. a. That fonr week's extension of time be granted to Mr. C. Lamberg for the completion of contract: No. 73, boat staging, and that thereafter the liquidated damages for non-completion be enforced. The Petone Wharf. Committee reported that in the absonce of any counter proposals or further suggestions from the Gear Meat Company, they were unable to recommend the withdrawal of any of the proposals contained in the Secretary's letter of tho 28th Juno, 1893. The Board wont into committee to consider the report.
