SPORTING.

THE RACING CONFERENCE. The Racing Conference concluded on Saturday. On the motion of tho Hon. Mr. Ormond, rules were adopted to govern the annual conferences of Jockey Clubs. The voting at conferences ia to be taken on the following basis : — Auckland Racing Club, Canterbury Jockey Club, and Dunedin Jockey Club, 3 votes each ; Wellington Racing Club, Hftwkes Bay Jockey Club, and Wanganui Jockey Club, 2 votes each ; Taranaki Joukey Club, Groymouth Jockey Club, Marlborough Racing Clab, and Nelson Jockey Club, 1 vote each; the combined country clubs of the Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, Wellraeton, and Hawkea Bay districts, 2 votes each ; the combined country eluba of the Wanganui and Taranaki districts, 1 vote each ; the country cluba of the Nelson, Marlborough, and Greymouth districts combined, 1 vote each. The Hon. J. D. Ormond ako moved, and it was agreed to — " That the oountry clubß have representation at faturo conferences." The meeting decided that in had no power to appoint a tribunal to enquire into the Manawatu Club's disqualification of Messrs C. Diamond and P. Power. No. 220f the totalisator rules was Btruck out, md rule 14 was amended to read as follows : — " Ten per centum commission, lea 3 the lmount of the State tax, shall be charged on ill money invested, Buch commission to go :o the club." On the motion of the Hon. J. B. Ormond, the meeting resolved — That this conference iesires to represent to the Government that steps were taken by the former conference to reduce the number of meetings at which the totaliaator could be used, and that the number of days' racing was reduced last fear by 28, bnt that the action of tho conference haa been impeded by the use of the totalisator having been granted to meetings the promoters of which had failed to comply Kith the conditions provided for reducing :he number of meetings. Further, the ionference calls attention to the growing us of tho totalisator at trotting club meet ngß, many of which are run by proprietary iluba for tho benefit of individuals. The sonference respectfully bega the aid of the Government in limiting the use of the otaliaator in future.
