The Marquis of Salisbury, speaking in London, described the supporters of Mr. Gladstone as manacled, gagged, and dragooned, and he ridiculed the flabby optimism of Mr. Gladstone in disdaining all lessons in Irish history. Ho advocated tho Swiss referendum as a safexnard aga/oat a tyrannical majority in Parliament. Tho Parnellites oppose any reduction in the number of members of tho House of Commons within six years, and urgo that tboro should bo a Minister to answer all questions affecting Ireland. Mr. Gladstone states that ho will leave the matter in the hands of tho Honse. The Ulster Unionist Parliament meets on Sth August. I special. | London*. Bth July. Tho Westminster Gazotto states that the Govornmont intend to retain in tho House of Commons 80 Irish mombcrs, who will hare a vote on all qnoßtions, but in the event of pressnro aro likely to retain tho whole of the Irish members.
