THE RACING CONFERENCE
Tho following is a summary of tho business transacted at tho Racing Conforonoo in Wellington last week: — Mr. J. Kirkwood (Auckland Raoing Club) moved, " That the Conference docido whethor pony and trotting races bo allowed in programmes submitted for approval." It was resolved that it was not desirablo to havo pony and trotting races on programmes. Tho proposal of the Tarnnaki Club that tho Conference should take Rulo 131 into consideration, with a view to enlarging tho jurisdiction of Metropolitan Clubs, was withdrawn. On the motion of tho Hon. Capt. Bussell. it was reaolvefl that tho following olauso should bo added to Rulo 65 : — " Tho ownor of any horse whoso name has boen changed shall upon demand of the Stewards or the Socretary of the meeting at which it is intended to ran his horso, produco the abovomontioned declaration, or his horse shall not bo allowed to start." A lottor was read from Messrs. Yuille and Nathan, asking the Conference to urge the Wanganni Jockey Club to removo the disqualification passed by that clnb some months ago. Tho Conference decided that the matter was within tho oxolusive jurisdiction of tho Wanganui Club. The Hon. Captain Russell moved, and it was carried — " TLat various instances having occurrod during tho past year of the rules of racing being infringed, this Conference desires to draw the attention of all officials of racing clubs to the absolute nocessityof uniformity of action, whioh q^n only be obtained by the literal interpretation of tho r ulos of racing." The question of the formation of a New Zealand Jockey Club was deferred until November. Dr. Earlo, of Wanganui, gave notice o£
his intention to move as follows tit the noxt Conference: — "That tho totalizator shall . not bo used by any club that has a raco of , lobs valuo than 25 soya on its programme. » That tho added monoy to bo given by any club holding ono mooting shall not bo less Hian JJISO; two meetings, threo meetings, .£SOO ; more than three meetings, JgCOO."
