♦ [united press association, i "Dunedin, Bth July. Some fine samples of wheat from Central Otagro have been receded, and will be sent to Wellington to show the capabilities of the district. The milling value of these is given by the millerß at is, whereas the top value of coastal is 2s Bd. The best wheat in the local market this year is from Central Otago. The velvet wheat of Strath-Taieri gives a yield of 50 bushels to the acre. The report of the directors of the Mornington Cable Tramway Company shows a credit, balance of .£1607 ; after providing for interest and the whole of the debit to casualty account, the balance is -£650, out of which a dividend of 6d per share is recommended, leaving £125 to be carried forward. At a meeting of volunteers to-night, it was' resolved to send five men to take part in the Sydney Eifle Association Meeting. A five-roomed house at St. Kilda was burned down this afternoon. It was owned and occupied by A. Foley, a bootmaker. The house was insured for .£l5O in the Norwich "Union, and the furniture for £100 in the South British. An adjoining two-roomed cottage was partially burned. It wu insured for JBBO in the Norwich Union. Auckland. Bth July. The demand for land in the Auckland district appears to be increasing. From Monday last 340 applications have been dealt with at the Crown Lands Office, the total area selected being 16,575 acres, representing a total value of .£3575. Most of the applications have been for perpetual leases. Argument in the Sydenham licensing case Chbistchubch, Bth July, was resumed to-day and concluded. Judge Denniston took time to consider his jndgmont, and the other cases will stand over until judgment is delivered. Nelson, This Day. The Bey. P.
