HORRIBLE STENCH IN BOROUGH OF ONSLOW.

? TO THE EDITOR. Sir — I am quite surprised that the young Borough of Onslow allows a portion of the borough (between Kaiwarra and Ngahauranga) to remain in a filthy state. Pedestrians cannot fail to recognise that same old familiar smell which has existed for some oonsiderablo timo, and has been noticed in your valuable columnß time out of number. And yet the Councillors let it remain in such an odious condition. I wonder whether these Councillors are fathors of familios, and whether they think their children may not get the germs of this fever bed innoculated into their children, wives or themselves. Might I ask how long is this abomination to last without the ratepoyes revolting against it ? If I remember aright, the Karori people did away with a slaughterhouse in their district, and, may I ask, why cannot this joining Borough of Onslow do likewise ? The only drive or ride of any importance out of Wellington, and that one, for a distance, through an atmosphere alive with disease ! ! Jam afraid it is wealth before hoalth, for the sake of a few paltry pounds. If the borough cannot get along without obtaining means from places whioh are a nuisance to travellers, to keep up their revenue, the quicker they impose an extra tax the better for the public at large, lam, <fee, Health Before Wealth.
