When tho pleasure-seekers arrived at tboir destination a variety of games, &c. woro gone on with. Tho greatest amuHO niont during tho day was the greasypolo contest, tho first prize for which wai a pig, and T. Ryan had tho h Miour of becoming the proud possessor of 1101 10 animal, W. King soonring socond prizo, and L. M'Arthnr tho third. Tho picnicarrangements wero carried out by a couimitteo mado up of tho following :— Messrs. J. L. King (chairman), Rilcy, Davis, Castle. Gaynor, Thompson, Nortliovor, Oliver, and Duncan (secretary). A return to Potono was undo about 5 o'clock, all those who hud avtouded having to all appearances thor.mghly onjoyod tho outing. In the evening a bull wan held at the Petone Drillxhed, und we aro safe in saying that it was ono of the m >st on joy able ever hold in the township. No pains had boon spared in the decoration of tho hall, which was carried out under Mr. W. Woods' direction. The interior walls wero ono mass of evergreens and flowora, while from the roof an attractive array of bunting and Chinese lantarns wn.B displayed. The attendanco was very largo, there being at the least 300 E arsons prosont. The music was supplied 7 Messrs. Shorwin (piano), Sinclair (cornet), and Hiiro Hongi (violin), and it gavo entiro satisfaction. A largo marquee. 110 feet hy 15 feet, had been erected o 1 tho ground adjoining tho Drillshud, a ill in this supper was served, the chair bjiug takon by Mr. Kelly, who was supported on tho right by tho Mayor of Petone and on the loft by tho Mayor-elect. Mies K. Woods gavo au exhibition of Highland fli'ig dancing, and was warmly applauded. Tne duncing during the cvonmg was gone into with groat hpirit, and tho company b-oko up at übout daylight, one and all pronouncing tho evening to havo been most onjoyablo and ono to bo long remembored.
