Brass bands, hugo bannors, trade emblems, and emblematical designs of various nations, wero prominent in the demonstrations. In connection with tho demonstrations, thero is also an art union, tbe first prizo consisting of a briok oottago, nud tho socond being an allotmont of land. Thore are also two or three pianos, and a groat number of smallor prizes. During tho wholo day, not ono sorioUß accident was reported. Grasshoppors aro becoming vory troublosomo in the north of South Australia, and tho young ones aro beginning to travel south in millions. Miss Parkes, tho only surviving sister of Sir Henry Parkes, died on tho 4th inst. ut Falcon Bridge, aged 81. Tho Victorian Customs authorities havo intercepted » large consignment of Zola's uovols, imported by a woll-known bookseller in Melbourne. Thoro aro somo 136 books in in tho shipmont, inoluding thoso most wmmonly road in tho colony. Permission IMB boen given to tho importer to send them Uaok to Europe, failing whioh the books will bo dostroyod by tho Department. The Inquirer's Goraldton correspondent telegraphs from Mnrchison field that tho splendid reefs found thoro aro looking better. A private telogram from M'Pherson confirms the news that ho has obtainod 4cwt of solid gold, and states that other roofs at Mount Magnot are equally as rich. A parcel of 1700oa of gold has roaohed Perth from Yilarga, being tho result of tho past fortnight's crushing. The annnal report of the Victorian Railway Commissioners shows a loss of £330,000 for the year.
