LAND BOARD.

Tho ordinary meeting of tho Waste Land Board was hold yesterday. Presont — Mossrs. J. H. Baker, Commissioner (in tho chair), W. A. Fitzherbert, A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., W. W. McCardle, and D. H. Macarthur, M.H.R. Tho schedule showed that from 11th June to 24th Juno the total area selected amounted to 2294 acres 3 roods 16 perches, the upset prico being -81221 15s Gd, the amount paid being JE237 6s sd, tegothor with .£73. Tho total amount selected from the close of the financial year to 24th Juno amounted to 21,320 alr lCp, the upset price realised being 13s lOd. Tho number of selections taken up during the last fortnight were eight, comprising two selections of rural lands for cash; ono selection of village laud for cash ; four rural .selections on perpetual lease and ono rural selection for a small grazing run. The following applications wore approved :— D. Corgriff , section 24, block 11, Mangaone : G. Colvillo, section 9, block 3, Mangnono ; J. H. Mathioson, soction 22, block 3, Wairoa ; W. Frampton, section 46, Hnnterville; J. Hurley, sections 188, 18 D, and 267, Hunterville; A. Jaokson, section 25, block 3, Apiti ; M. J. W. Jackson, seotion 23, block 3, Apiti ; F. Hill, section 80, block 18, Mangahao , A. J. Turner, section 126, block 7, Mangahao. The Commissioner submitted a report from the Surveyor on Rubbish Reserve, section 26, blook i, Mangahao, and it was resolved to call for tenders for a sovon years' lease at Is per aore per annum nndor the Public Reserves Act, 1881. The Alfredton Road Board forwarded proposals ,and plans for expending accrued thirds in sections in their district, which were approved. With reference to tho application of Mr. M. A. H. Emmott to transfer section 3, block 11, to A. Palraor, it was resolved to approve of the same as soon tho improvements required wero effected. Mr. T. Trevor applied to be allowed te capitalise the unpaid instalments on section 55, block 5, Mangaono, Approved. Tho Crown Lands Ranger reported on the bnshfalling on tho Mokakahi Rivor Bank Reserve, and it was rosolved to take no further action in tho matter. With roferonce to the cancellation of sections 3 and 15, block 5, Omahini, it was resolved that tho explanation was not considered satisfactory, and the cancellation must stand. Mr. P. Mangan applied for permission to cut firewood on tno unsold sections Levin Township, and it was resolved to approve on the usual conditions. The Ranger, Mr. H. Lindius, forwarded a report on tho Pomborton Special Settlement Block, and it was resolved to oall upon the selectors in arrears to show cause why their interests should not be forfeited. With reference to the petition of selectors in the Wellington Special Settlement Blocks, that selectors bo compelled to effect their improvements, it was resolved to ask Mr. W. M'Larin to show cause why his land should not be forfeited. Mr. F. L. Seager wrote explaining why he had allowed Mr. Hobbs to occupy section 20, block 1, V/aiopehu, and it was rosolved to request Mr. Seagor to attend the Board at the next meoting. The motion

standing in Mr. McCardlo's name re tho question of preventing tho accumulation of largo estates was postponed till next Board mooting. Mr. E. P. Bunny waited on the Board and asked that the transfer of section 5, block 4, Mikimiki, from K. Olscn to Messrs. Stewart and Pickering, as Mr. Olsen bad been compelled to leave for Norwuy. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. McCardle, seconded by Mr. Fitzhorbert, that the transfer be granted. With reference to the transfer of section 63,b10ck 9, ITungiiono, from Mr-i. W. Diiwn to Mr. Wliitc-idu. it wn-. iosol\ed that tlio improvement* bo lirst effected. With reference to tlio ciwollation of Mi<s Field -i section 10, blo;k 4, Oinah'ni. it was decided that the uancollation bo rescinded. With reference to the application to obtain the title to Mr. W. W. M f C'ardle'» Hection perpetual leaHC 84, block 7, Mangahao, it was re.-solved to approve of the title provided tho Ranger gives tlio usual certificate. With reference to tho proposals of the Pahiatua County Council paused at tho laßt mcotinp, a letter was read from Mr. T. P. Girdwood as to a proposed division oMiis thirds from sections 1 and 2, block 3, Mangahao, and it was resolved to assist his views if possible. The following applications to 'transfer wore approved:— W. Ellis, sections 4, 32, and 3, Block 12, Tiriraukawa to himself and F. W. Ellis ; H. S. Munro, sections 49 and 50, block 9, Apiti, to A. Munro ; J. J. Donovan, section 82, block 9, Koparanga, to S. W. Donovan ; J. J. Donovan, section 84, block 5, Koporanga, to S. W. Donovan ; T. O'Gorman, Bection 45, block 8, Makuri, to L. P. Hanson. Tho Board then adjourned for a month.
