Wellington Amateur Operatic Society.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tho third annual meeting of the Wellington Aroatour Operatio Society was held at St. Peter's Schoolroom last evening, there being a largo attendanco of members. Mr. W. E. Hall, Chairmari of Committee, prosided. The report of the committoo referred to the success which had attended tho production of the operas "The Sorcerer" and " lolanthe," and congratulated the society on the faot of its again having a substantial cash balance to its credit. Profound regret was expressed at the loss sustained through tho death, under painful circumstances, of Mr. P\ Putnam, the sooioty's esteemed conductor, to whose widow and children tho committee had conveyed the sincere sympathy of the society. In Mr. Tallis Trimnell, who replaced him, they had obtained a gentleman of high attainments, and doubtless much of the success of the last production was due to the energy and ability displayed by him. A resolution having been passed at an extraordinary general meeting Held in January last, favouring amalgamation with the Wellington Amateur Dramatic Club, the meeting was invited to pass rules to carry the amalgamation into effect. It was proposed to continue the contribution hitherto given by tho Dramatic Club in aid of the maintenance of a child's cot in the Wellington Hospital, and the Committee, in anticipation, gave an «xtra performance of " lolanthe " in 'aid of the fund, with financially satisfactory results. The balance-sheet ffcowed that tho cosh balance now remaining to the credit of tho society was .£125 Is lid, which, however, includes a sum of about .£l9, forming a special fund for the "cot." It was also explained that a further sum in cash would be handed over from tho Dramatic Club. The expenditure since lost balance amounted to .£758 6s 4d, and receipts (including a sum of i! 10 6s 9d brought forward from 1889-90 season) to £883 8s 3d. The actual' receipts from the "lolanthe" season were shown to have been J2460 19s, and from " The Sorcerer " season 10s. The revenue from loan and sale of scenery, dresses, <fee, was .£B7 9s 6d. The assets are valued at £150, the liabilities being ml. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman warmly congratulated the Society upon having hod such a successful year, and Mr. M. Fox, who seconded the motion, thought that the result was ample evidence of the capacity of the committee. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. In reply to Mr. Binns, the Treasurer stated that the outstanding subscriptions did not amount to more than about £2. The rules under which the new Society, to be called "The Wellington Amateur Operatio and Dramatic Society," propose to work, were then submitted for consideration, and were adopted, with the exception of rides 10 and 11, defining the privilege of acting members, which were held over for further consideration at an extraordinary general meeting. The new rules provide, amongst other things, that the subscription of honorary membership shall in future be 25s instead of £1 Is as formerly, and this will entitle the members to receivo four tickets for each of the two regular seasons. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Fox, seconded by Mr. W. R. Bock, that the life members of the Dramatic Club Bhould be created honorary life members of the new, society, and have the same privileges as acting members. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted in the re-election of the former President (Mr. W. H. Levin), Vice-Presi-dents (Dr. Collins and Mr. Duthie, M.H.R.), Treasurer (Mr. W. R. Bock), and Stage Manager (Mr. W. D. Lyon). The new Committee were elected as follows :— Messrs: W. E. Hall, H. E. NiohoUs, W. Bumsey, F. Jones (all re-elected), F. C. Binns, R. Stansfield, E. G.
