THE NEW RECREATION GROUND. TO THE EDITOR.

Siu—By ins-crting these few lines I shall fool heavily indebted to you. Ah a citizen, I liko to see thing* dono fairly, and mortally liato to f-oo and hear of tiie joalousy and Helfißbness which is now existing among a few residents ot Oriental Bay on the subject of the proposed new recreation ground in that locality. I believe tbo petition to bo presented to the Harbour Board shortly has only about o0 signatures so far, which is comparatively small in proportion to thoso who are in favour of tho Hchcmo. Do thofo residents think for one moment that tho whole population of this city is going to bo deprived of all its pleasuros, &c, for the hake of a few 'individuals who aro afraid of losing their view to the harbour? If tho residents of other parts of tho city, who live by tho Bliore, had petitioned against all works in front of .their property, and gained the favour of tho local bodies, what would the City of Wellington bo to-day f Progress would be at onco stopped in this direction, and instead of Wellington being tho premier city of Now Zealand, in my opinion it would bo far and away boliind the rest. It has not too many places of recreation now. Tho majority of the football clubs havo passed resolutions strongly upholding tho scheme, and I think it should bo at once commenced. Livo and let live is my policy, and I hope tho Harbour Board will not hesitate to grant the promoters their reqnent, and holp in the movement, and take no notice of tho petition of Rclfish people. I am. &c, Mohk Pleasure.
