WESLEY CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
ANNUAL MEETING. A meeting in connection with the 51st anniversary of the Wesley Church, Taranakiatreet, was held in the sohoolroom attached to the ohuroh last evening, and was largely attended, the Eev. J. Berry presiding. The annual report was brought np by the Secretary, Mr. J. Fitchett. It stated the year's income amounted in round figures to about .£l5OO, and came mainly from the following sources: — Sunday collections and members' subscriptions, .£1354 6a lOd; trnst fund aooount, £646 18s; Sunday schools, £103; poor fnnd, £32 10s 6d ; foreign missions, £32 4s ; Home missions, £105 0s 6d. Beferenoe was made to the valuable servioes rendered by the choir, under the conductorship of Mr. W. J. Harland.and aleoto the deaths of Mrs. G. Tiller and Mr. J. White, who had been most ardent ohuroh workers. The various church organisations, and the valuable work accomplished by them, were touched upon, and the report concluded with an expression of deep regret at the approaching departuro of the Eev. J. Berry for Auckland. Mr. G. B. Clark, Superintendent of the Sunday School, also presented a satisfactory report, from which it appeared that the sohool was in a most flourishing condition, and attended by 800 scholars, 260 of whom were over 15 yeats of age. The Rev. Mr. Beck moved tbe adoption of the report, and in the course ot his remarks testified to the vast amount of good which had bean accomplished by Mr. Berry during his sojourn amongst them. Mr. W. Mozham seconded the motion, and the report was adopted. The Eev. Mr. Berry, in repljing to the remarks of the speakers and the referenco made to himself in the report, Baid tbat although the work which had been accomplished daring his three years' ministry had not been entirely satisfactory to himsolf , he at any rate could oonsoiantiously say that he bad done his best. He was deeply grateful for the assistance which ho had at all times received from his congregation, and bespoke for his successor (the Bey. J. J. Lewis, of Chriatcburch) similar treatment. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Berry shook hands with most of those present, who heartily wished him God-speed aud success in his new cirouit. In the course of the evening the choir sang several anthems, which had the effect of lending additional interest to tbe proceedings.
