At the meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day, a letter was received from Dr. Collins, in which hs stated that the decision of the Commissioners on tbo Arnab?ldi charges was strangely EUggeetive of the o'd vordict "Not Guilty, but don't do it again." Ho proposed to send to London to ask tho opinion of one or more loading surgeons there as to his surgical treatment of the cases whioh had been the subject of tho late enquiry. Ho thanked the Board for the confidence they had shown in him at this time, but stated thit the enquiry had been a pretext for the battle royal between the supportors of the old aud now system of Hospital management, and h3 had been the chief viotim of the fight. Under those circumstances ho was not eager to remain in his present position. The ChairI man said he was not surprised at this. Dr. Collins had more than once told him of the impossibility of carrying on the work he had to do at his present salary. He moved that Dr. Collins be relieved of his duties at the end of September next and bis salary bs paid to 1 the cud of tho present yoar, and that if he I desires to leavo earlier he can do so on his giving three months' notice, lie said the efiect of this motion, if carried, would be the revorsion to some suoh system of hospital management as the old system, under which patients were treated by the honorary visiting, staff, there being a resident surgoon at the hospital. The motion was carried, and it was decided to invite applications from seven medical mon to take the following positions :— Three as honorary surgeons, and one as ophthalmic surgeon, to be tho honorary medical staff, there being also at the hospital a paid skilled medioal man and junior assistant.
