Flare], editor of the New Zealand Schoolmaster and incumbent of Merivale, was to-night presented ' with a purse of sovereigns and an address from the parißbiopere and the Sunday school teachers, on bis resigning to leave for England. Biahop Julius presided. ' The plans for the restoration of the Cathedral spite show that in appearance it will be similar to its original form. About 15 feet is to be taken down before commencing to build in fire bricks. The finial and cross will be of light copper work, and will rest upon a socket, so as to allow them to play in a high wind or earthquake. A long ohain of heavy weight will be attached to the lower end of the finial to keep the whole in position. Dunedin, 31st Maroh. Mr. John Thgmpßon,"B.E., lias been appointed Leoturer on Applied Meohanios at Otasro University. He was formerly in charge of the Gisborne and New Plymouth harbour works. Kumara, 31st Maroh. The wedding of the Rev. W. S. Bean, curate of Holy Trinity, Eumara, to Miss Seddon, eldest daughter of the Minister of Mines, waa solemnised this morning. The Rev J. Blackburn, of Hokitika, and fiev. J. P. Fendall officiated, and the churoh and streets were crowded. The weather was glorious, and the ceremony passed of! brilliantly. The bride was given away by her father. The happy pair left afterwards for Chrjstohnrcb, The Hon. R. Seddon was banqueted at Rimu last night. There were 150 present. There was great enthusiasm. The Minister goes to Hokitika to-morrow. Auckland. 31st March. Pastor Birch's future conrse is at present undetermined, but he has been invited to take oharge of a Baptist Churoh at Wooloomooloo. A new seam of coal has been struck at Whangae, about two miles from Kawakawa. Westfobt, This Dat. The little steamer Pioton, whioh went ashore to the north of the Little Wanganui River, is now safely moored inside. The Westport £. avals, who returned yesterday from the Greymouth encampment, speak in high terms of praise of the arranger ments and management. Wanganui, This Dat. Mr. Harkness, M.H.R., now on a visit to New Plymouth, stated dnring a speech he made there that he hid purchased a farm in Taranaki, and intended residing upon it is the future.
