HU TT TO WN BOARD.
_ « _ Tin ordinary monthly meeting of the Hutt Town Board was held in the Borough Offices, Lower Hutt, last evening. Present, Commissioners Cleland (in the chair), Hayes, Fitzherbert, Cudby, Ransom, and the clerk. <- Mr. De Rosa waited on the Board with reference to the drain on the western Bide of thp Huttroad. It was agreed =that the ri^dman bo instructed to see to the matter, in conjunction wjth tLe Connty Council's roadman. ' *' '- ' - A letter was received from Mr. A. W. Collett, asking that a footpath be placed in front of his property. Later on a deputation, consisting of Messrs. Collett, Treadyell, and Hill, waited on the Board with reference to tb.e s»jne Bubiect, ancj it was nltfmatply (}grged, on the motion of Councillor Hayea, eeoonefcd by' ttonnojllpr Cle: land, that tenders be called for the work, and that the Board hojd a meeting sevoii days from date to consider the tenders. The Clerk was instructed to first gbtain the County Connojl's oonsept, A letter was reoeived from Mr. Price, calling attention to the rise in the ptioe of timber. The Secretary to' the Treasury wrote, stating that the Government subsidy, amounting to £75 19a 9d, had been placed to the Board's credit. A deputation, consisting of Messrs. Barraud, Feild, and Dimant, waited on tbo Board, and asked for Borne monetary assistanoa to the Mechanics' Institute. Too Chairman informed the deputation that he believed the Board to be favourable to their request, but he was not sure that the money of the ratepayers oonld legally be given to an institution unless it waa thrown open to the public. The Board, however, would
consider the question, and acquaint them of their decision later on. Mr. Shadrack Parker waited on the Board with reference to the drainage of surfaoe water near his residence. It was agreed to I put in a drain to carry off the water. Accounts amonnting to £70 2a 7d were passed for payment, and there being no other business the meeting adjourned.
