I would ask, do you mean residents of E&rori who have to walk borne after dark are to be prohibited from using the pith through the gardens in preference to the muddy road? Tha road is in a very ba-1 state. If any of yon doubt it take your walks abroad towards, Karori any evening during the present week about 7 o'olook, and I promise you tho»e who olean your boots next mornrv? a a 11} 1 Ji huik tlwy bavo * TMV dirty job. On Saturday evening, at 7.30, I was going hbme from town with my daughter and BMter-in-law. and we made ohoioe of the path through the gardens, in preference to tne bad road. About 100 yds from the gate wb were. stopped by 'a tall man, evidently suffering very badly fiom asthma or broi ohitu r ,aggr»vated no doubt by having to keep watoh at night. He demanded ou« business and I informed him we were bound to tßiMri throng-h the garden, to »void ttto mud. said he oould not allow ns ti go on ; we'ttust gobaok and taoklo the mna^ As law-abiding' 1 subjects yo did so. Gerillmnetu do yon wish ihe rule oarried out to| the letter," or fait only to bo a terror to evil doers? 'The'olaisg you are anxious to kaep out w th.c gardens at night are well known to tho >olid«, and I doubt not to ihi custodian" of the garden^. Lefi the law bo enforced agairist them, and not against those who aye anxious to abstain from filth of all softs— moral or muddy. 1 ' Ihave,&o., ■ , Baker's Hil", Karori-road' " - NIOI P'* , 6th July. 1800.
