The New Steamer Maori.
A STORMY EASTING. |Bt Tblegraph.J ITTNITID FBIBS ASSOCIATION .] Dunedin, Ist May. The Shaw, Sav^H, and Albion Company's new steamer Maori arrived to-day under th.9 command of Captain Scotland. After leaving Algoa Bay she experienced a fresh gale with terrific cross sea, the ship rolling heavily. The whole of the derricks broke adrift, and to secure tbem the vessel's course was altered to N.E. until daybreak the following day, when they were secured, and the vessel again put on her course. About ten minuteß afterward the vessel gave a fearful roll, and the fastening to the spare propeller in the 'tween decks broke adrift, and before it could be secured it damaged 22 of her frames and fonr of her plates, making several holes on the starboard side and two small ones on the port side. Chains were Bent down below, and the propeller waa held up to the ship's side until a, tackle was rigged when the propeller was put down and secured amongst the coals in the lower hold, and the holes in her aide were barrioaded with boards, and concrete pnt between them. The whole of her stanohiona, pumps, and sounding pipes in the 'tween decks were carried away. Thence she had moderate weather until her arrival. The vessel goes into the graving dook to-morrow. i
