The Mining Conference.
I Bt Telegraph.] IUNITID PEEBS ASSOCIATION. I Dunbdin, 10th March. The Minim? Conference was resumed this evening, when the motions were discussed. It wa* resolved that it ia desirable to establish a Mining Accident Fund for tho whole of the colony, and that the trustees of the Kaitangata Belief Fa ad approach Parliament with a view of devoting the surplus of that fund to the purpose. It was also resolved that with tho view of promoting a more energetic working of dredging claims, it is desirable that special protection regulations be framed in the direction of compelling claimholders to furnish to the Warden periodical reports, stating the progress made towards actually commencing mining operations daring the preceding period, and that a continuance of protection be left to the diecretion of the Warden from period to period. A resolution was aleo carried that a permanent body, to be called the Chamber of Mines, should be constituted for the conservation of all mining interests, and for the furtherance of mining research. A committee, consisting of eight members of the Confereuce, was appointed to draft • the constitution of the Chamber. On the motion of Mr. Reeves, it was resolved to ' recommend the Government to send Home ' a competent mining expert to the Mining Exhibition, and report on the moat improved appliances for mimog. On the motion of ! Captain Andrew, the subject of the relations ' between mining and capital was referred to ' the new Chamber, with a view of providing ] remedies for the evils pointed out in the 1 paper read. On the motion of Mr. T. Begg, the Government were recommended to give ( a bonus for suitable gold-saving machinery. ! A number of suggestions from the public ' meeting at Reefton were referred to the new Chamber, and the Conference ended.
