Dukedin, 19th November. The town of Lawrence is to be lighted with eleotricity, tho Corporation having accepted Ford's offer. The cost is not to exceed what would be equivalent to 6s 8d per thousand feet of gas. Hokitika, 19th November. Dr. Collins, surgeon and superintendent of the Westland Hospital, has been appointed to take charge of the Auckland Hospital. The Bank of New Zealand shipped 23270z of gold bullion, of the value of .£9300, to-day. Auckland, This Dat. At the Wosleyan district meeting yestorday, a motion against separation was carried by an overwhelming majority, 36 being in favour of the motion and six against, whilst two wero neutral. Najier, This Dat. Mr. Goodall, the Harbour Board Engineer, yesterday handed in his resignation, refusing to accept tho reduced salary of .£5OO. He was requested to withdraw his letter to permit of negotiations for the retention of hia services. An endeavour is being made to bring about a conference of inspectors and secretaries of Education Boards at Dunedin during the Exhibition. One of the main objects is tc secure greater uniformity in examination! for Standard passes and in classification of resultß in the different education districts. Mr. G. H.
