The Bank of New Zealand.

IBt Telegraph.l i united press association.! Auckland, 21st January. Mr. F. Larkworthy, late managing direotor in London of the Bank of New Zealand, is at present in this colony on a tour of inspection in the interests of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. He was interviewed by a Herald reporter yesterday, when the following conversation ensued: —" Were the steps which were taken here lately to rehabilitate the Bank of New Zealand approved by you ? " " Certainly; and the appointment of the proposed committee was strongly supported by myself and tho London Board." "Have those steps, in your opinion, been successful, and what effect are they likely to have on the future of the Bank?" "They have been most successful, and are likely to have a most beneficial effect on the future of tho Bank. I think, however, it would havo been better if personal conflict could have been more recognised as the ultimate cause of the troubles of the Bank; still, I recognise that it is very difficult to avoid personalities in such cases in the Australian colonies, and the steps to which you refer have been almost forgotten. The business of the Bank here is increasing, and the institution ia likely to be stronger in the estimation of the public than ever it has been. Hero, you well know, the institution 18 regarded with high favour." " Were the deputations from the committee of much service to tbe Bank in London?" "Of great service, and your fellow-townsman, Mr. Horton, for his indefatigable, zealous, and successful labours, deserves the warmest thanks of the shareholders. No one knows better than Ido the value of his services. I would also add that the committee and its worthy Chairman havo well earned the thanks of the shareholders, and in my opinion the institution is most fottunato in having for its present Chairman a gentleman whose qualifications are of so high a character for the post as those of Mr. Buckley."
