4" I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] London, 18th January. For kauri gum there is a poor demand. Five hundred cases have recently been sold at a doclino of 2s 6d to ss. The imports of Australian lamb exhibit an increase for 1888 of 21 per cent, over that for 1887, and New Zealand of 19 per cent. In mutton there is a general increase of 73 per cent. At Smithfiold, beef is averaging top prices ; Australian mutton is 4 l-12th, and Now Zealand 4Jd per lb. Antwerp, 18th January. The wool Bales closed very firm. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agonoy Company, Limited, have reoeived the following telegram from London, dated 18th instant :— Tallow— There is little demand. Good mutton is worth .£35 10s per ton. For good beef tallow the quotation is unchanged. New Zealand hemp — The speoulative demand has fallen off.
